Herne Bay, named after the village of Herne, which in turn is named after the mythological figure of
Herne the Hunter. Herne is not a particularly well-known figure in British mythology, but he would have been familiar to British TV viewers in the early 1980s from his regular appearances in the series "Robin of Sherwood". He used to turn up in Robin Hood's visions with a pair of stag's antlers on his heada "horny boy" indeed.
